WCOA host Luke McCoy has his last show on Friday, Dec. 19. It has been reported that Cumulus will replace him and “Pensacola Speaks” with syndicated programming.
Luke saw the candidates for which he campaigned so vigorously fall this year: Sheriff Ron McNesby, Marty Donovan and John McCain. In 2006, he was all Save Our City, all the time as the he tried to defeat the Community Maritime Park referendum. He liked to act as if he was the maverick when he was actually the ultimate insiders – promoting Jeff Miller, McNesby and Bush.
Will I miss Luke? No. I haven’t listened to him in nearly two years. I do hate to see the station drop “Pensacola Speaks.”
1620AM appears to be moving to syndicated programming also. Bubba Bechtol has announced his last morning show will Dec. 31. Wendy Summers is still doing her 9-11 a.m. show. However, Marty Stanovich, Larry Butler and I are gone. They have two new hosts that seem to be bouncing around filling in spots – Dave McBride (from Chicago area) and Rob Williams (Pittsburgh) – neither is very familiar with the area.
WEBY is plugging along with Dave Daughtry in the mornings and a variety of local hosts for “Your Turn” in the afternoons.
