Candlelight Tours at Ft. Pickens set for July 22

Gulf Islands National Seashore presents its annual Candlelight Tour program at Fort Pickens. The Candlelight Tour is a great way for visitors to experience the fort in a whole new light, learn about life at the fort, and the experience of the Civil War soldier at Fort Pickens in 1861. The program will be held this year on July 22, 2016, from 7 pm to 8:30 pm.

Park rangers, volunteers, and Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) members will guide visitors through Fort Pickens with stops featuring unique stories. Living historians will be on site to provide further insight into the life of a soldier at Fort Pickens during the early years of the American Civil War.

Visitors are encouraged to dress appropriately and bring a flashlight. This is a rain or shine event. The program is free, but there is an entrance fee for the Fort Pickens Area. For additional information, contact the national seashore at (850) 934-2600.

This program is planned and presented by members of the Youth Conservation Corps. The YCC provides paid opportunities for young members of the community to spend their summer protecting the nation’s special resources. This year, Gulf Islands National Seashore is hosting six local high school students in Florida for eight weeks, as well as four in Mississippi.
