Celebrating Success: Escambia County’s Summer Youth Employment

This Friday, July 18, the Escambia County Commission celebrates the nearly 200 young people who dedicated their summer to gaining valuable work experience through Escambia County’s Summer Youth Employment Program.

The recognition ceremony, set for 11 a.m. at the Brownsville Community Center, 3200 W. De Soto St., will honor the participants for their commitment to professional development and community service.

A Program That Makes a Difference

District 3 Commissioner Lumon May, along with Neighborhood and Human Services staff, will lead the ceremony recognizing the youth who participated in this comprehensive employment initiative. The program represents more than just summer jobs – it’s an investment in the future workforce of Escambia County.

The 2025 Summer Youth Employment Program provided participants with hands-on experience across a range of county departments and community partners. From Animal Welfare to Public Works, and from the Board of County Commissioners to Parks and Recreation, these young professionals gained exposure to diverse career paths while contributing to their community.

Real Experience, Real Impact

What sets this program apart is its comprehensive approach to workforce development.

The program’s success stems from strong partnerships between Escambia County and local organizations. Participants found placements not only within county departments like Building Services, Corrections, Engineering, and Library Services, but also with community partners including:

– Circuit Court Judge Miller
– Community Health Northwest Florida
– Escambia County School District
– Escambia County Tax Collector’s Office
– Gulf Coast Minority Chamber of Commerce
– Just Ice Served LLC
– Town of Century
