January is National Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, reminding us all to be aware of the disease.
The American Cancer Society’s most recent estimates for cervical cancer in the United State for 2011 show that about almost 13,000 new cases of invasive cervical cancer have been diagnosed and over 4,000 of those cases will die from cervical cancer.
“Cervical cancer can often be found early and sometimes even prevented entirely, by having regular Pap testsâ€, said Dr. Tom Patton, Baptist Medical Group gynecologic oncologist, in a press release. “It is extremely important to have an annual visit with your physician to prevent certain types of female cancers.â€
January is about new beginnings. Start off 2012 right and make an appointment with an OB/GYN physician.
