Chamber shake-up continues

The report I have received from those attending today’s special executive committee meeting of The Greater Pensacola Chamber is that board has lost eight board members over the past month.

Hoteliers will gain governance of the bed taxes, ending an agreement that the chamber has had with the Escambia Board of County Commissioners for over two decades. If the full board and county commission approved the change, the hotel owners will control all advertising and the Visitor Information and Convention Center through a new independent entity – which will be supposedly “laser focused” on tourism.

Jerry Maygarden will have his “interim” title removed from this positions of CEO & President, which he took over from Jim Hizer on Aug. 15. Gary Huston, attorney with Clark, Partington, will be the new board chairman, effective Oct. 1. These changes, too, must be approved by the full board.
