CLEAN ENERGY WORKS GULF COAST FLY-IN
Information for Potential Participants
WHAT – Clean Energy Works (CEW) is a coalition of organizations, including National Wildlife Federation, Environmental Defense Fund, Environment America, League of Conservation Voters, Sierra Club, The Audubon Society, The Alliance for Climate Protection, and others working to pass clean energy and climate legislation in Congress this year. CEW is flying residents from the Gulf Coast to Washington, D.C. to tell their Senators and the media their story about the effect the oil spill is having on their lives, the economy and the environment. Participants in the fly-in will meet with their Senators or their staff in their Capitol Hill offices and participate in a national press conference at the Capitol.
While in D.C., participants will also participate in media and lobby training to prepare them for their meetings with their Senators and the national press conference.
Clean Energy Works will provide participants with transportation to DC, a hotel room on the night of June 16th, and food/beverages during their time in DC.
MESSAGE: The Gulf Coast Oil Spill Disaster highlights the importance of a new approach to energy in America. While we hold BP accountable, Congress needs to act now to pass comprehensive energy and climate legislation that cuts our dependence on oil, creates clean energy jobs and cuts dangerous pollution.
WHO – Gulf Coast residents who have been personally affected by the oil spill.
WHEN – The fly-in is happening next Wednesday and Thursday, June 16th and 17th. Fly-in participants will arrive in DC on Wednesday morning and leave DC on Thursday evening.
