Cities may takeover sewer utility

The South Florida Sun Sentinel reports Pembroke Pines, Pembroke Park, Dania Beach and West Park are meeting this week to discuss how to make Hollywood (who provides them sewer) give them a say in the operation of the plant.

Hollywood Commissioner Keith Wasserstrom has been suspended by Gov. Jeb Bush for corruption. Broward State Attorney Michael J. Satz is investigating why the city paid $5.5 million more than necessary for improvements to the sewage plant.

Escambia County and the City of Pensacola may have to take similar action if ECUA doesn’t relocate the Main Street Plant.
