City Council pushes ahead with charter amendments

Pensacola City Council President Jewel Cannada-Wynn has called a special meeting for Monday, August 11 to vote on two proposed amendments to the city’s charter. If they are approved by the Pensacola City Council and avoid the mayor’s veto, then the amendments will be placed on the Nov. 4 general election ballot.

The first amendment, proposed with Ordinance 32-14, corrects an oversight in the charter and allows the citizens to recall the mayor and council members. The second one, proposed with Ordinance 32-15, grants the city council the authority to hire its own staff independent of the mayor.
