City Council to Look at Libraries

The Pensacola City Council has scheduled a Special Committee of the Whole meeting. The subject of the meeting is the West Florida Public Library’s budget and operations.

The city of Pensacola, together with Escambia County, funds the library system. Recently, the city cut hours for the libraries in response of the county reducing its funding contribution. County commissioners, in turn, have decided to further reduce the county’s contribution in order to use that money to restore hours at the county branches.

During this morning’s county  commission work session, Commissioner Gene Valentino said that he had a Nov. 5 meeting scheduled with Pensacola Mayor Ashton Hayward to discuss the interlocal library agreement between the county and city.

The city council’s special COW meeting will be held Nov. 7 at 9 a.m. at Pensacola City Hall.
