At meeting today with Fire union members, we were told that the union sought an 8 percent across-the-board raise for all ranks during the negotiations on the recently approved bargaining agreement.
However, the City negotiators demanded that the Fire Captains get the biggest raises – 10 percent. They wouldn’t budge on that point.
Why?
There is more to this than meets the eye. I also question why the City council and administration are paying for two deputy chiefs. They aren’t part of the union negotiation.
Appears we keep adding to the top to the detriment of the front-line services.
