City Monitoring Bayfront Parkway Bicycle and Pedestrian Traffic through FDOT Program

In an effort to gain a better understanding of local multi-modal traffic, the City of Pensacola is participating in the Florida Department of Transportation Non-Motorized Traffic Monitoring Program. Through this program, FDOT loans temporary bicycle and pedestrian counters to local jurisdictions twice a year for a two-week period.

Similar to collecting motorized traffic volume data, the non-motorized data collected can be used for safety studies, planning and programming FDOT facilities, pavement and trail maintenance, and more.

Infrared cameras and bike tubes have been installed on Bayfront Parkway near the entrance to the Pensacola Bay Bridge multiuse path. The city hopes to expand the number of counters and explore a partnership for continuous counter stations in the future.
