Citywide Tree Survey

The City of Pensacola is conducting an Urban Forest Inventory of trees on city property and rights of way throughout the city, with a goal of better understanding and managing Pensacola’s urban forest.

City consultant Geosyntec will begin surveying trees on Wednesday, June 29 and continue for approximately seven weeks. The survey crews will be on foot, but vehicles marked with Geosyntec magnets will also be parked on city streets and in parks while the inventory is completed.

Survey crews will be conducting a tree-by-tree inventory of protected trees and heritage trees on city property and rights of way, identifying tree species, measuring tree diameters, and using GPS equipment to document tree locations. The inventory will collect information only; no trimming or cutting will take place. Survey crews will not enter private property while completing the inventory.

The information gathered through the inventory will help the City of Pensacola identify existing tree needs and plan for future tree planting, which will help the city maintain and foster a healthy urban forest for generations to come.

Geosyntec will work closely with the City Arborist and Sustainability Coordinator throughout the Urban Forest Inventory project.
