Class-size battle brewing

Florida voters in 2002 changed the state’s constitution to require smaller class sizes in their public schools. Since then, the Florida legislature, Gov. Jeb Bush and school superintendents have tried to rewrite the requirements. State. Sen. Don Gaetz has a bill for the lawmakers that would call for new statewide referendum.

The class-size measure was approved by 52 percent of the voters in 2002. By the start of the nest school year, there can be no more than 18 students per classroom in PreK to Third grades , no more than 22 in 4th-8th grades classes and no more than 25 in high school courses.
