This week, I interviewed Emerald Coastkeeper Laurie Murphy about her efforts to clean up Carpenter Creek. She and Councilwoman Sherri Myers had a tremendous response to their Town Hall meeting on the creek (Read Saving Carpenter Creek).
Commissioners Grover Robinson and Lumon May have endorsed the Carpenter Creek RESTORE project. Murphy and her volunteers are waiting for funds. They will begin the clean up this weekend.
“We have a lot of work to do,” said Murphy. “Our clean up is this Saturday, Dec. 3 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. We will meet at the Publix Shopping Center on 9th Avenue. Emerald Coastkeeper is providing gloves, bags, food, and water.”
She asks that people to dress prepared to work along the creek and to wear waders or waterproof boots.
