Mobile Press Register reports that for $10 a year in rent, the city of Mobile will have a new Midtown community center. The City Council voted this month to approve a 48-year lease of the old Woodcock Elementary building, which the city plans to use for community and recreational programs.

Brownsville Middle School has sat empty for five years. Superintendent Malcolm Thomas has rejected any such leases, saying he must get $1 million for the property. He also told reporters in January that he had another buyer. Hmmmm, has anybody seen a sales contract?
