The Molino School closed in 2003. Its campus includes 9.66 acres and four buildings. Superintendent Thomas didn’t offer a lease agreement like the one given in Mobile ($10/year for 48 years). Instead Escambia County bought it for $400,000 in May 2009 with Local Option Sales Tax dollars. Read more.
As mentioned before, Thomas first demanded $1.9 million for Brownsville Middle School, then $1.4 million and finally set the minimum at $1 million. Commissioner Marie Young made no effort to help Rev. May or the community buy the property with LOST funds. She has repeatedly expressed no interest in a community center there.
