Representatives for Quint and Rishy Studer announced today that they will be adding a fourth floor to their Maritime Park office building and that they already have a signed tenant for the office space. The estimated increased property taxes for the city should be between $50,000-$70,000.
Beck Property Co. also showed their design of their building on the corner of Spring and Main streets. The first floor will be for retail, second floor will house Beck’s offices and the third floor will have four lofts ranging 800 to 2000 square feet. Their design/construction team includes Bay Design (architects), Williams-Brown, Inc. (construction management), Rebol Battle & Associates (civil engineering) and Homer Jolly Design (marketing). Justin Beck said that he hoped to break ground before the end of the year.
The CMPA board approved CBRE (Coldwell Banker Richard Ellis) as the leasing agent for the park, but withheld final approval until the listing agreement was presented to them at a later meeting.
The board also approved renewing its contract with Hatch Mott MacDonald to analyze why the liner of the retention pond has floated to the top. CMPA Chairman Jim Reeves said, “We want to take action before everybody gets away”—meaning before the contractor and design team leave the project.
Reeves expressed concern that the City had already contracted to do what he called a “band aid” approach to the problem and he was worried the City’s actions might invalidate any warranties on the pond.
The board approved hiring Hatch Mott, really it was just an extension of the current contract. They will work up several options and try to determine the cause of the problem.
In other action, the board approved issuing an RFP for a breakwater, recommended that the city council reappoint three incumbent board members whose terms will expire and also appoint Chad Stacey and Reid Rushing to fill two vacant positions.
Chairman Jim Reeves also presented “thank you” gifts to two past chairmen – Eddie Todd and Collier Merrill. The first CMPA chairman Judge Lacey Collier wasn’t able to attend.
