College Republicans under fire

At UWF, the College Republicans are hosting a protest entitled “First Annual Catch an Illegal Immigrant Day” on Tuesday, October 10 at 8:30am.

Here is one objection to the protest:

Mr. Chairman,

First, let me say this…while I do not have a problem with you personally Clay; you and I are now at a crossroads.  My comments are being copied to Allison because I am stunned she and the Christ Campaign are backing this idea????  However in speaking with Allison she wants nothing to do with this.  Further the other day I asked a question to an apparent person who is assumed to be a bigot in Dixie Dan Powell; but I am wondering if your candidate (Terry Ketchel) whom I voted for supports this nonsense and if the RPOF and RNC are supporting we have major issues. Your “Catch an Illegal Immigrant Day” idea is nothing short of racist.  I am ashamed as a Republican and a TRUE CONSERVATIVE to be associated with this.  I personally do not dislike you or Margaret this will put us at odds and while it should not it will.  As an Afro-Latino, heck as an American I am totally offended.

I was under the impression that upon your assumption to the position of power you assumed last spring that you would take the high road; as you made it very clear in any and all interaction we had up to the last year.  You stated you would not do events like Abortion rallies etc.; rather you would do events that had more meaning and substance.  This event you sponsoring and holding on campus is anything but that.  As a member of College Republicans I am absolutely ashamed that you would send such an egregious and racist message to the student body.  While I am sure you and Margaret will disagree with me on this; I feel that you have not only been insensitive but have disrespect me and all as a Hispanic and all Hispanics and as an American Veteran period.

Your event is blatant racism and I am going to do everything in my power to ensure it does not go off; we can’t allow this kind of non sense to go on.  I am sure you might find an ally in President Cavanaugh and Student Activities to whom I cannot believe would allow such an asinine event to go on.  I not only don’t understand what you were thinking, but what on Earth is the University of West Florida thinking.  They approved this event hesitation or reservation.  This event and its approval are insensitive to all students of color!  You have demeaned and demoralized a fellow member of your party and a fellow club member.

The University of West Florida and its administration have not only dropped the ball on this, they are cooperating with an agenda that strategically interesting in that’s it closing out Hispanic Heritage Month.  So sure a school that supposedly supports diversity is not allowing event to go against State and Federal and divide the student body.  I am appealing to you and the school not to do this event……Clay there better and more productive things we can do together.

Sincerely,
