Commission chair wants BCC emails available online [podcast]

On Monday, Escambia County Commission chair Doug Underhill was my guest on News Talk 1370 WCOA’s “Pensacola Speaks.”

Commissioner Underhill wants to see the Board of County Commissioners become even more transparent.

“Democracy is not a spectator sport. It is a participation sport, so every step, every meeting, we need to be thinking about how do we move more toward that. You’re going to see more town halls during my watch as the chair.”

He wants emails made available online. “You shouldn’t have to do a public records request to get my emails. They’re yours. They belong to you. I’d like to see us push that information through our CMR, our Community Media Relations Office so that’s it’s easily discoverable,” he said.

“I would love for Escambia County to be the shining beacon of open public government.”
