Escambia County Commissioner Grover Robinson will be heading to Walton County Wednesday for a meeting of the Florida Commission on Oil Spill Response Coordination. The commission is charged with identifying potential changes to state and federal regulations that would improve oil-spill response procedures.
“To better get ourselves prepared in case another oil spill happens,†Robinson said today.
Created by state law, the commission must present its findings to officials in Tallahassee by January 2013. The commission’s final report will address possible changes aimed at 1) improving oversight and monitoring of offshore drilling activities, 2) increasing response capabilities to offshore oil spills and 3) improving protections for the public and occupational health and safety, and the environment and natural resources.
This week’s meeting will be the third gathering of the commission. The meeting will be held Oct. 3—Wednesday—in Santa Rosa Beach.
