Commissioner Valentino goes after Sheriff Morgan on television over Middleton shooting

Commissioner Gene Valentino used the shooting of Roy Middleton as an opportunity to challenge Sheriff David Morgan. He complained to CNN and WALA 10 that he wasn’t informed of the shooting. According to the post on the WALA website, the commissioner said the shooting raises questions on the level of violence within the county and whether the sheriff’s office is properly trained to deal with these situations.

Sheriff Morgan told the TV reporter, “In the last four and a half years, I’ve had six deputies shot in the line of duty. I’ve yet to receive a call from Valentino on their condition. We brief the commission on a whole host of things, but not usually on situations regarding law enforcement because it’s not within the purview of their responsibility.”
