Consolidation fails to get council approval

The Pensacola City Council vote, 5-4, against telling the state legislative delegation that they support placing the proposed consolidation plan on the ballot next November. Mike Wiggins, John Jerralds, Jewel Canada-Wynn and Megan Pratt voted in favor of consolidation. P.C. Wu was absent, attending a Florida League of Cities meeting in Orlando.

Consolidation proponents have until Thursday’s regular meeting to convince two council members to switch their votes. While they had had little success persuading city council members and county commissioners, the pro-consolidation folks have invested considerable time and money on the state legislative delegation—-the true decision makers on whether the plan is placed on the ballot.

Progressive Pensacola recently obtained the emails of Escambia County Consolidation Study Commission (ECCSC) chair Ken Bell. The emails span from June 2009 through mid-January 2010. There are several emails regarding our state representatives, including Greg Evers and Clay Ford.
