Council Executive (Redo, Again)

The Pensacola City Council will take another shot at hiring a council executive this afternoon. The board is holding a special meeting today to tackle the issue.

Last month, council members selected from a handful of applicants for the position. The winning candidate—a college professor from North Carolina—subsequently turned down the job.

The city council has been working to secure an executive for about a year. Last fall, the board’s initial pick also declined the position.

During the more recent selection—made during a May 24 special meeting—council members selected an executive candidate from a new crop of applicants. Several members of the board were absent for that meeting, including Council President Sam Hall, who later said he hadn’t felt particularly strong about any of the executive candidates.

Today’s meeting will be held at 2 p.m. at Pensacola City Hall.
