Council picks its executive

The Pensacola City Council ended its nearly year long search of its council administrative assistant executive. Last night, the council selected Scotty Davis, community services director for the City of Florence, South Carolina. I hope it goes well and helps smooth out the friction between the City Council and the Mayor’s Office.

The good news for Davis is the Pensacola City Council has never fired anyone. It’s hard to get five votes to do it. The bad news is he will have to deal with nine different interpretations of what his job is.

Davis’ salary: $82,500. Benefits could put his cost over $100 grand. He will cost as much as some of the department heads.

The City Attorney needs to thoroughly brief him on Florida Sunshine Law and how he can’t be a conduit between council members.
