Escambia County commissioners will consider this week if the county should settle with a woman who was involved in an accident with a county vehicle.
In June 2011, Sharmaine Dixon was driving a vehicle that was struck by an Escambia County Road Department vehicle. According to a staff report, the county vehicle, with trailer attached, was preparing to exit the parking lot at the county’s central office complex when it backed into Dixon while attempting to make room for another vehicle to enter to the lot.
“She received an impairment rating from her treating chiropractor of 13 % of the body as a whole,†stated background information compiled by county staff. “She owes over $10,832.00 in unpaid medical bills. The proposed settlement is within the reasonable range of verdicts for this type of injury.â€
Commissioners will consider Thursday if the county should settle with Dixon for the amount of $12,500. The settlement would be paid with funds out of the county’s Risk Management reserves.
The Escambia County Commission meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the governmental complex downtown on Palafox Street. There is a public forum at 4:30 p.m.
