Press release: County and city officials estimate over $126 million in damage to private property (single-family homes, multi-family homes, mobile homes and businesses) located in Escambia County and the City of Pensacola as a result of Hurricane Sally.
Damage estimates in Escambia County are approximately $111 million and damage estimates in the City of Pensacola are $15.69 million. This is a conservative damage estimate because it only includes destroyed and major damage (not minor or affected), the valuation from the property appraiser is utilized, and assessments are continuing throughout the county and city.
In the county and city, 44 buildings were destroyed, 629 have major damage, 915 have minor damage and 168 have been affected. To date, a total of 1,756 structures were damaged throughout the county.

In a letter to President Trump asking for individual assistance sent on Sept. 25, the county stated, “Between the wind and flooding in Escambia County, our citizens have suffered $100,000,000 of damage to their homes.”
The county’s updates had previously reported, “Preliminary estimates are approx. $182.6 million of damage to public and private property in the county and city of Pensacola.”
On Sept. 20: “Preliminary estimates are $139 million of damage to public and private property in the county and city of Pensacola.”
On Sept. 18: “We are working on county infrastructure assessments and hope to complete this no later than Friday, Sept. 18. As of today, over $21 million damage to county assets (roads, bridges and county-owned buildings).”
It’s easy to see why FEMA has questioned the county’s estimates.
UPDATE at 1:01 pm, Sept. 29:  County added this phrase to its estimates: “The county is currently working on infrastructure assessments. Preliminary estimates are approx. $182.6 million of damage to public property in the county and city of Pensacola.
