The Escambia Board of County Commissioners will be receiving a $5.4 million FEMA grant for flood control improvements. The plan, which was approved last night by the BCC, has the county contributing an additional $1.25 million. The work will cover Bristol Creek, Bristol Park, Ashbury Hills, Pin Oak Lane and New Warrington Road areas, all of which flooded during April 2014.

The announcement was second one regarding stormwater improvements this week. On Tuesday, Mayor Ashton Hayward touted his efforts to land a $940,000 Emergency Watershed Protection (EWP) Program grant by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). The funds will be used to restore and stabilize areas along Carpenter’s Creek and Baywoods Gulley. The city will have contribute $236,000 as a match.

Our area will be receiving over $6 million in federal funds. Congratulations to Escambia County officials and Mayor Hayward for their efforts.
