County names January Employee of the Month

The Escambia County Board of County Commissioners has recognized Josh Cartwright as Employee of the Month for January 2025. Cartwright, who serves as Field Supervisor in the Transportation and Traffic Operations Division, oversees the county’s traffic signal maintenance program.

In his role, Cartwright manages 211 traffic signals, 125 school zone beacons, and various traffic safety devices throughout the county. He also coordinates with the Florida Department of Transportation on 116 state-maintained signals through an interlocal agreement.

“I am truly honored to be recognized as Employee of the Month,” Cartwright said. “This achievement wouldn’t have been possible without the support and dedication of our incredible team in the Engineering Department. Their hard work, collaboration, and commitment to excellence inspire me every day.”

Since joining the Engineering Department in December 2018, Cartwright has implemented several technological improvements, including installing a new traffic camera on Perdido Key to monitor bridge and roundabout traffic patterns. He consistently researches innovative solutions to balance cost and effectiveness.

“Josh is an invaluable member of the Engineering Department,” said Joy Blackmon, P.E., Director of Engineering and County Engineer. “Maintaining our vast network of traffic signals, cameras and stop signs is no easy feat, but Josh works diligently to keep everything moving smoothly for our citizens. He is proactive and a keen problem solver, always looking for ways to improve our efficiencies.”
