Escambia County has named a new Human Resources Director to replace outgoing director Ron Sorrells, who will retire in November. Thomas G. Turner was the unanimous choice of the six members of the selection committee, who reviewed more than 70 applicants for the position. Mr. Turner will begin his tenure on October 14 22.
 “Mr. Turner brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to Escambia County,†said County Administrator Charles “Randy†Oliver. “His combination of public and private sector experience will certainly be an asset to our organization. The opportunity to have his start date overlap with Ron’s tenure will make the transition seamless.â€Â
 Mr. Turner is currently employed in Human Resources with the State of Iowa and was the Human Resource Director for the City of Des Moines from 1997 to 2011. He also served as Vice President, Human Resources and Human Resources Director for several private sector organizations representing fields as diverse as finance, healthcare and an electric/natural gas utility.
 Mr. Turner earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Business Administration from the University of Northern Iowa, as well as a Doctorate in Jurisprudence (with honors) from Drake University Law School.
 Mr. Turner’s son is currently stationed at Hurlburt Field.
