CourtTV examines trials of the King brothers, Ricky Chavis

On Sunday, May 12, the Court TV true-crime series “Accomplice to Murder with Vinnie Politan” will examine Ricky Chavis’s role in the 2001 murder of Terry King, who was bludgeoned to death by the young sons, Alex and Derek.

Politan appeared on WCOA’s “Real News with Rick Outzen” this morning.

“What was really unusual about the prosecution of this case is that you had a prosecutor making two different arguments about who the killer was,” Politan shared. “It seemed as we were covering it that it was as if the prosecutor doesn’t know exactly what happened.”

He continued, “And I think it’s so complicated and convoluted because you have the age of the boys, just 12 and 13, the youngest ever to be tried as adults at the time. And Ricky Chavis is a very complicated character as well. And he’s a pedophile who had this strange relationship with one of the boys.”

The “Accomplice to Murder” series spotlights the convicted, condemned, and exonerated accomplices involved in some of the country’s most interesting cases. It provides a unique window into trials with verdicts that might not be as clear-cut as they initially seem, featuring exclusive interviews with the accomplices and other primary players involved in the crime. “Accomplice to Murder” is drawn from Court TV’s massive library of hundreds of trials spanning three decades.

Politan has seen more demand for in-depth true crime reporting.

“I’ve been at Court TV for a long, long time, and having the ability now to do projects like this, in addition to my nightly show, there’s a little more satisfaction because of the depth that you can go into,” he said. And I think that’s what our viewers and our audience really are craving now–a little more nuance and depth in telling these stories.”

Last month, the News Journal reported that Alex King, now 35, had died at Providence St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula, Montana, after overdosing on drugs.
