COVID cases spike again – 29 new cases

Escambia County has 29 new COVID-19 cases – most in a single day since May 3.  Of the new cases,  only one is a non-Florida resident.

The trend is still upward.  For the past two weeks (May 29-June 11), Escambia County has had 160 new cases – 69.4% were Escambia residents.   The previous two weeks (May 15-May 28), the county had 113 new cases – 61.1% were locals.

The DOH Escambia will not tell us where the increased infections are occurring.

The DOH county report shows the rate of positive case for June 9 (3.2%) and 10 (4.6%) are the two highest days of the past 14 days.   In fact, May only had three days with a higher rates than June 10- May 15 (10.3% but only 29 tests entered), May 8 (4.8%) and May 2 (13.7%).

Escambia County also had one more death, bringing total to 37.

— 69,069: Total number of cases.

— 1,698: Increase in cases from a Wednesday count.

— 8,886: Increase in cases during the past week (from a June 4 count).

— 28,087: Increase in cases during the past month (from a May 11 count).

— 2,848: Deaths of Florida residents.

— 47: Increase in deaths from a Wednesday count.

— 241: Increase in deaths during the past week.

— 1,113: Increase in deaths during the past month.

— 1,487: Deaths of residents or staff members of long-term care facilities.

— 33: Increase in long-term care deaths from a Wednesday count.

— 155: Increase in long-term care deaths during the past week.

— 773: Increase in long-term care deaths during the past month.
