Contact Tracing

According to estimates from the National Association of County and City Health Officials, 30 contract tracers per 100,000 residents are needed during the COVID-19 pandemic. In nonemergency situations, 15 workers per 100,000 people are needed. Of the places that responded to NPR or have released this information in press releases, only four states are positioned to surpass that 30 workers per 100,000 thresholds: Washington D.C., Michigan, Nebraska, and North Dakota.

Escambia County has 311,522 people, per 2019 estimate by U.S. Census. The county needs between 42 and 93 contact tracers.
