While Sunday, July 4 was the lowest day for new COVID cases in Florida since Monday, June 29–6,336, Escambia County had another 100+ day, with 133 new cases.
Of the county’s new cases, 123 were Florida residents, four tied to nursing homes, median age 34 and positivity rate 17.0% – only two of the past 14 days have been below 10%.
Sundays are usually low case days for Escambia:

June 14: 13
June 5: 1.
In other words, yesterdays’s new case total for Florida residents in Escambia County is nearly eight times greater than the Sunday average for June.
Two cities that were among the earliest to report COVID cases were Seattle and Chicago. We’ve surpassed them in daily cases per 100,000 and lag behind them in testing.
For July 5, Â Chicago reported 191 positives out of 4,014 test results – 4.8% positivity rate. Â About 7.05 cases per 100,000 people.
For July 5, King County – where Seattle is located – Â reported 230 positives out of 6,111 test results – 5.9% positivity rate. About 10.2 cases per 100,000 people
For July 5, Escambia reported 123 positives among locals out of 717 tests results – 17.0% positivity. Â About 38.6 cases per 100,000 people.
All of Santa Rosa’s new cases are Florida residents – median age 27 and positivity rate 19.3. Last week, the county had 399 new cases – 15.9% positivity. Â From March 15-June 24, Santa Rosa only had 371 total COVID cases.
Last week, the daily rate of infection averaged 30.9 case per 100,000 people.
