CRA to seek more public input on Hawkshaw parcel

For the second time in two months, Councilman Charles Bare made the motion to turn down all the proposals for the Hawkshaw property on south Ninth Avenue. The CRA passed the motion on Monday, 5-3, with Council President Andy Terhaar, Council VP Larry B. Johnson and Councilwoman Jewel Cannada-Wynn on the losing end of the vote.

Five firms responded to the Request for Proposals: The Aragon Group, Granger Development, Gunther Properties, Whitesell-Green Inc. with H+H Building Group, and ITEX Property Management.

A selection committee narrowed the list to three finalists for the 2-acre parcel appraised at $1.74 million. All the proposals were for less than the appraised value:

The Itex Group Property Management proposed building a five-story, 180-unit apartment building. Rent would run $900 to $1,600 per month.

Whitesell-Green and H+H Building Group proposed a mixture of 37 town homes, priced $225,000-$350,000, and two, 20-unit condo buildings, priced $215,000-$295,000.

Granger Development proposed a nine-story, 87,600-square foot mixed-used building with 47 condos ranging in size from 850 to 1,700 square feet. The proposal would have the Still Waters Day & Medical Spa on the first floor.

Bare told Inweekly that wants more public input on what the citizens would like to see developed on the property.
