Crazies come out as CMP vote nears

We are caught in a real life version of the movie “Groundhog’s Day” as we have to repeatedly deal with those opposed to the Community Maritime Park and repute the same old attacks again and again- over two years after the city voters approved the project by referendum.

Unfortunately, they often resort to personal attacks on Quint Studer, instead of staying on the issues. But even when we that try to address the park issues, they have few facts. They loved Mark O’Brien’s column on Monday because it slammed Studer and the CMPA chairman, Lacey Collier —even though we proved that the O’Brien’s insinuations were baseless.

Ahh, but facts don’t matter to these park opponents. They have done little or no research. I had one park opponent today post on the blog an editorial from Nov. 1997 to support his views.
1997! And btw the city still built the park.

They want to stop the park, no matter who they smear in the process. They don’t like it. They don’t like Quint Studer. They want to ignore the referendum and act as if it never happened. They don’t care what the rest of the community wants. They know what’s best for all of us.

Folks, expect it to get worse. The Sunshine lawsuit didn’t work. In 2006, they accused all the council members, except beloved Marty Donovan, of breaking the Sunshine laws then, too. The State Attorney found the charges without merit then, too.

The CMP agreements will be passed. The city will figure out the financing, and we will start construction on the park soon.

Until then, the opposition will get more shrill and more desperate.
