Blake Doyle Skatepark Celebration
Upward Intuition will host the official opening day event at the Blake Doyle Skatepark starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 10.
- “We wanted this day to be unforgettable,” said Jon Shell, Upward Intuition founder. “Skating, kids’ clinics, contests for cash and prizes, music, vintage vendors, food trucks and more — all open to the community. It’s going to be epic.”
Dig Deeper: Proceeds from Opening Day will benefit Tony Hawk’s non-profit, The Skatepark Project (TSP). Founded in 2002, TSP’s mission is to increase access to outdoor recreation and free play in low-income, BIPOC and other under-resourced communities through the creation of safe and inclusive skateparks. To date, TSP has helped build nearly 700 skateparks across all 50 states, serving nearly 9 million skaters each year.

Recycling Reboot
- Its customer – including the City of Pensacola residents – can start putting mixed recyclables in their recycle bins on the same day.
Why this matters: The City of Pensacola Sanitation Services Department uses ECUA’s recycling facility to process recyclable materials from City Sanitation customers. Due to a staffing shortage at ECUA’s facility, recycling for City of Pensacola Sanitation customers has been temporarily limited to cardboard only since mid-April.
Dig Deeper: Maybe immigrant workers could have helped with the staffing shortage. Just a thought.
Gaetz Avoids Crowds
Gaetz is expected to provide an update on his work in Washington and in Florida’s First Congressional District, along with answering questions from the community – about lures and shotguns.
