Daily Outtakes: Citizens concerned about Galvez Landing Project

Galvez Landing

Citizens in the Innerarity Point area want Escambia County officials to hear their concerns about the proposed RESTORE ACT project that would transform their neighborhood park with a small boat ramp, Galvez Landing, into a massive boat launch area.

Background: Escambia County has released its RESTORE Act Draft Multi-Year Implementation Plan Amendment 4 for a 45-day public comment period beginning Tuesday, May 13 until Friday, June 27.

Galvez Landing Plan

Why Fight?

A Innerarity Point resident explained: “The State Park at Grand Lagoon is two miles away on the Intracoastal and built a large loading dock and has ample parking to accommodate the large charter boats that they want to bring into Galvez Landing. There is no need to have them in a community park and relatively small property that is used by small fishing and recreation boats.”

concerning the renovation of Galvez Landing.
June 14, 2025

Big changes are planned for Galvez Landing, located at Innerarity Point in Pensacola. The project, which had been paused for several years, has suddenly resurfaced with a short deadline of June 27, 2025, set for public input. Many of us have questions and concerns about how these proposed changes will affect the residents of Innerarity Point.

Galvez Landing is not a remote boat launch — it sits in the very heart of our community. Innerarity Point is a small, water-surrounded peninsula, and Galvez Landing is the only public water access available to local residents and visitors. That makes it not just a convenience, but a vital part of daily life and a central piece of our neighborhood identity.

Galvez Landing is woven into the cultural fabric of our community. It’s where generations have gathered to launch boats, fish, picnic under the oaks, and enjoy a small beach that feels like our own. It’s a cherished place to watch the sun set over the Intracoastal Waterway — a peaceful, beautiful tradition that connects neighbors and families alike. Many of us bought homes here because of the proximity to Galvez Landing and the lifestyle it supports.

For years, this oak-shaded park has drawn our community together — a place to catch the cooling breeze, enjoy the view, and embrace the slower pace of life that makes Innerarity Point so special. Our neighborhood is defined by an Old Florida charm: a nature-loving, walking-friendly community with sidewalks, and now low-impact golf cart transportation. Galvez is the heart of everything — the one destination that brings everyone together.

We understand that change is coming, and we’re not opposed to progress. However, as residents and taxpayers, we strongly feel we should be included in the process. A public town hall meeting would give us the opportunity to ask questions, share ideas, and voice our concerns before any project is finalized.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
The Residents and Friends of Innerarity Point and Galvez Landing

“Safety Stand Down” Town Hall

On Sunday, Commissioner Stroberger posted on Facebook plans for a town hall to address Sorrento Road and the Galvez Landing Project.

From Commissioner Stroberger:

Because of the recent traffic fatalities in our district, I am planning another Town Hall (last April, I had a Town Hall at Liberty Church), which I’m calling a “Safety Stand Down.” This will answer questions on the road situation. Additionally, with some help from county staff, we’ll have a discussion about the Galvez Landing Project.

What’s a Safety Stand Down? In the military, after a recent string of aircraft incidents, automobile accidents, or just before a long weekend, the command would conduct a Safety Stand Down to pass useful life saving information through oral and video presentations. The private sector does the same thing before a long weekend. It was a way to take an operational pause and stop a trend of mishaps. I want our community to do the same. Take a pause from our daily routine and drive more safely, more defensively. I can also pass some useful road project information and we can have a Galvez Landing discussion.

I’ll post this on my Commissioner Facebook page and CMR will post to their website with more details to follow.
