Daily Outtakes: City still climbing out of cyber attack

Message late Friday

The City of Pensacola’s Innovation and Technology Department continues to work tirelessly to address the network security incident that occurred Saturday, March 16. As a result of the incident, IT Department staff disconnected computers from the city’s network this week until the incident could be contained.

The following city services are now operational:

  • Online permitting services through MGO Connect
  • Landlines
  • Email

However, some city services continue to be affected such as Pensacola Energy and City Sanitation Services’ online payment capabilities.

Pensacola Energy Customers

Due to this inconvenience, penalties and disconnects on delinquent accounts will be deferred until all payment receiving and processing capabilities have been restored. During this time, customers are encouraged to pay their bills with check by mail, or by check or cash in person at the City’s Customer Service Center located on the west side (i.e. Reus Street side) of City Hall, 222 W. Main St.

City Sanitation Services Customers

If your bill was due on or after March 15, 2024, late fees will not be assessed. Once online bill pay is restored, customers will have three business days to pay their bill before late fees will be imposed.

The city is still in the investigation and recovery stage, as the IT Department continues to check all computers and work to fully restore the network and all city services. For security reasons and due to the active investigation into this incident, specific information about how the network security incident occurred will not be released.

The public’s patience is greatly appreciated during this time.
