Daily Outtakes: City wants to make another purchase

Buzz: Pensacola Mayor D.C. Reeves is interested in purchasing Lakeview’s Morris L. Eaddy Activity Center on Lakeview Avenue north of Baptist Hospital.

  • He will announce his plans at today’s weekly press conference at 1 p.m. Mayor Reeves will also be my guest on WCOA this morning at 7:45 a.m.

Why this matters: The activity center – which has a gym – could be a replacement for the Fricker Center, which needs renovation.

  • Community Health Northwest is interested in opening a pediatrics clinic at the center.

Dig Deeper: Today, the Pensacola Council’s CRA will vote on the purchase of the Pensacola Motor Lodge on West Cervantes Street.

  • The Lakview gym could be the city’s next big purchase. I’m interested in hearing the details of this proposal later today.

Couldn’t Happen Soon Enough

Last week, Mayor Reeves announced the addition of two more police officers that will start patrolling downtown Pensacola on nights and weekends on Thursday, June 15.

Why this matters: We needed them this past weekend when a victim with multiple gunshot wounds was found in the parking lot behind Seville Tower after 911 received several calls about guns being fired in the vicinity of Government and Jefferson streets.

Police Release:

Pensacola Police are on the scene of a shooting in downtown Pensacola that left one person wounded.

At approximately 0349hrs, Pensacola Police received multiple 911 calls to the area of Jefferson in Government St. Once officers arrived, they found a male with multiple gunshot wounds in a parking lot on the northwest corner. Officers began providing aid, and he was trama alerted and transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The shooting appears related to a disturbance between a group of people. Preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect had some interaction before opening fire, striking the victims.

The suspect(s) fled northbound on Jefferson St in a four (door) dark sedan.

The parking lot and surrounding area is expected to remain closed for several hours.

If anyone has information on this case, please contact Pensacola Police at (850) 435-1901 or to remain anonymous call Crime Stoppers at (850) 433-STOP or download the P3 App on your smartphone.
