Daily Outtakes: Downtown Post Office closing

The Post Office on South Palafox Place is closing. The new owner wants USPS out of there. No word on whether the fountain is being removed, too.

Those with post office boxes have received notices that their accounts are being moved to the East Hill Post Office, 3001 N. Davis Hwy. USPS has made it possible for them to keep the same POB and Zip Code, but you have to trek three miles to get it.


Soul Bowl Success

Commissioner Lumon May says the 2023 Soul Bowl came close to meeting the attendance record of the first one held at Blue Wahoos Stadium.

Mayor D. C. Reeves rearranged his flight plans to attend the game with his daughter Caroline and address the nearly 4,ooo fans during the Unity Circle presentation.

Others in attendance included Commissioner Steven Barry and his kids, State Rep. Andrad, his wife and daughter, Council President Delarian Wiggins, Assistant State Attorney Frederick Longmire, Judge Ross Goodman, Troy and Ashley Rafferty, HCA West Florida exec Kendrick Doidge and his wife, FPL exec J.T. Young, WEAR-TV Sue Straughn, DIB exec Walker Wilson, SYSA supporter Shirley Cronley, Pensacola Police Chief Eric Randall, City Administrator Kerrith Fiddler and Community Health’s CEO Chandra Smiley, Reggie Dogan and their team.


UWF Football Suffers First Loss

Three years of conference road success and lofty scores produced by the UWF football team came to a crashing halt.

It happened Saturday when least expected.

Unable to sustain drives, summon big plays, or even find the end zone, the sixth-ranked Argos sustained a stunning 10-6 loss against West Alabama and now face an uncommon scenario to reach season goals.

The Argos (5-2, 3-1) had won nine consecutive Gulf South Conference road games and were 18-3 in the past five years in league road games.

But their prolific offense, which was averaging 36.5 points and 464.5 yards total offense this season, suddenly went silent for an entire game.
