Daily Outtakes: Escambia graduation rate falls, while state rises

On Monday, the Florida Department of Education announced that the state’s 2022–23 high school graduation rate climbed to 88%, an increase of 0.7 percentage points over the previous school year and a 1.1 percentage point increase over the pre-pandemic graduation rate in 2018–19.

  • Governor Ron DeSantis said, “Florida’s graduation rate continues to climb because our educators place a sole focus on academics in the classroom.”

Escambia County’s graduation increased to 80.5%, up 2.1 percentage points over 2021-22. However, it is down 4.3 points from the pre-pandemic graduation rate in 2018–19.

  • Escambia was one of two counties with over 2,200 graduates with a drop in graduation rate of over 4 points: Marion County had 2,707 grads, 5.86 points down.
