The grassroots effort to support the University of West Florida and replace Gov. Ron DeSantis’s appointees to the UWF Board of Trustees with local leaders is assembling a “rapid response team” to take busses filled with locals to the hearing for the appointees before Senate Ethics and Elections Committee.
Though one committee rejected Adam Kissel last week, all the appointees still must face the committee chaired by Sen. Don Gaetz.

The future of UWF is at stake, and we need YOU to stand up and make a difference! We’re gearing up to head to Tallahassee for the Senate Ethics and Elections Committee meeting, tentatively scheduled for April 7 or 8.
This schedule may change at the last minute, so we’re organizing a rapid response team to ensure the buses are filled and our voices are heard.
Momentum Is Building
Our efforts are paying off! The Senate Appropriations Committee recently rejected Adam Kissel’s appointment to the UWF Board of Trustees. Meanwhile, the Pensacola City Council and Mayor D.C. Reeves have voiced opposition to Governor DeSantis’ controversial appointees, joining Escambia County and over 2,900 petition signers.
Transportation is free, and your presence will make a big difference in protecting our university. Numbers count at Sen. Gaetz’s committee, and we need to show that the community is upset at this hostile political takeover attempt.

Keep it OUR university
The Greater Pensacola Chamber sent a letter to Sen. Gaetz supporting UWF but fell short of asking him not to approve the appointment of the two most controversial trustees: Boise State professor Scott Yenor and Heritage fellow Adam Kissel of West Virginia.
Calling UWF “a valued community partner whose excellent work has greatly benefited our business community,” chamber board chairman David Deliman wrote, “We are proud to support the university’s mission and respectfully ask you to protect the legacy of UWF and ensure it is positioned to continue delivering stellar results for our citizens.”

On behalf of the Greater Pensacola Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, I am writing in support of the University of West Florida. Our board has closely followed the recent developments regarding the UWF Board of Trustees. As a result of the ongoing conversations surrounding UWF, we are compelled to speak out in strong support of the university and underscore the importance of its role in our community.
