Daily Outtakes: Floridians not happy with Matt Gaetz

The latest survey by Florida Atlantic University found that 57% of the Floridians polled disapprove of Rep. Matt Gaetz’s performance as a member of Congress, with 46% saying that they strongly disapprove.

Only 12% strongly approve, and an additional 9% somewhat approve. Eight percent neither approved or disapproved, and 14% said they didn’t know.

In Northwest Florida, only 20.9% strongly approved or approved of Gaetz’s job performance.

Drag Shows Win

The U.S. Supreme Court will not allow Florida to enforce its new law targeting drag shows while a court case proceeds.

Why this matters: The DeSantis administration had asked the court to allow its anti-drag show law to be enforced everywhere except at the Hamburger Mary’s restaurant in Orlando, which challenged the law’s constitutionality.

Dig Deeper: Last month, a panel of the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a lower court’s order stopping the law from being enforced. The district court found that the law likely restricted free speech and couldn’t be enforced anywhere in the state. Read more.

TaxWatch Chaos

Tony Carvajal, former executive vice president at Florida TaxWatch Research Institute Inc., has filed a lawsuit alleging that he was wrongfully terminated last April after complaining to other TaxWatch leaders that the organization’s longtime president and CEO, Dominic Calabro was sexually harassing female staff members and encouraging employees to drink alcohol at work.
