Gov. Ron DeSantis has signed HB 1645, making climate change less of a priority in state law and banning expansion of wind turbines in Florida.
The new law also removes a requirement for state and local governments to buy the most fuel-efficient vehicles when replenishing their fleets.
DeSantis defended the measure as “restoring sanity in our approach to energy and rejecting the agenda of the radical green zealots.”
Our delegation – Sen. Doug Broxson, Rep. Alex Andrade, Rep. Joel Rudman and Rep. Michelle Salzman – voted for the bill despite GE Wind, now known as GE Vernova, being a major employer in Escambia County. Read “GE investing more into Pensacola plant.”
Regressive politics!
This is an example of foolish culture war politics above facts, science and what is right for the people of FL. History will harshly judge the actions of Gov. Desantis and a majority of FL legislators who put partisan politics and the profits of the fossil fuel industry above the needs of Floridians facing massive economic losses from the impacts of climate change on our state.
