Daily Outtakes: Pensacola Polka

There’s plenty of buzz about who will be Escambia County’s Supervisor of Elections. The names getting the most talk are former mayor Grover Robinson and District 4 County Commissioner Robert Bender.

If Gov. Ron DeSantis appoints Bender, then his commission spot becomes open in the interim if Bender vacates before July. Then an election and primary will be held to decide who completes the last two years of his term.

Tons of names are being mentioned: Jim Reeves and Ashton Hayward are being talked about at IPC, the Establishment and restaurants around town as possible interim solutions.

Who would run for D4 seat? Possibles: Jared Moore, Charles Bare, Cris Dosev, Walker Wilson, Tommi Lyter, and Greg Litton have been mentioned.

This will be fun to watch.

  1. Barbara, does Ms. Daniels want to run for the role if she is appointed interim?

I agree with you that she is so crucial to continued excellence in that office’s performance, and hope to goodness that she is either appointed or stays on to assist–more realistically, train–a successor if she doesn’t want to run for the elected office in the event she is appointed.

On another note, per the list of names Rick shared, I haven’t spoken with a single person who thinks Grover can handle that role, functionally or temperamentally. Enough said.

If Ms. Daniels isn’t appointed, Commissioner Bender would be an excellent person to assume the mantle, and a natural fit for the demanding skill set, which sadly now includes putting up with searing political pressure and lunatic conspiracy mongering as a thanks for performing well one of the toughest jobs in any county.
