Oscar-nominated, Emmy-winning filmmaker Josh Fox (GASLAND, AWAKE, A DREAM FROM STANDING ROCK) has launched a Kickstarter Campaign to finish Rebekah Jones: Whistleblower.
- Rebekah Jones is the internationally-celebrated, much-maligned, brilliant, wild-child data scientist who became Florida’s most prominent thorn in the side of Gov. Ron DeSantis.
Why this matters: The film documents one scientist’s fight for truth in an increasingly dangerous political climate.
Dig Deeper: Rebekah Jones was fired for refusing to falsify COVID data at the Florida Department of Health. She filed a whistleblower complaint and was attacked relentlessly by Governor Ron Desantis. She continued to speak out even after her home was raided, and she was the victim of relentless online misogyny and harassment.
- Fox says, “Rebekah refused to lie. Refusals are powerful. When you refuse power, when you throw truth in its face, it will try to crush you with everything it has got. That’s what DeSantis did to Rebekah. Using the full force of the state to attack a person for speaking out against him. A dangerous pattern for a leading contender for the White House.”
Scheduled for a late 2023 release, producers are seeking the public’s help in bringing this story about the consequences of truth-telling to audiences nationwide.
