Daily Outtakes: Safe Streets, Scary Sea

The City of Pensacola’s Draft Active Transportation Plan is now available for review and comment.

Why this matters: In the last five years, 28 people died – including 10 that were walking or bicycling – and 115 were seriously injured (36 while walking or bicycling) on Pensacola streets. This equates to about six deaths and 23 serious injuries annually.

Dig Deeper: The strategic recommendations have five design components:

1. Design for target speeds.
2. Right size streets using flexible street design.
3. Get the crossings right by reducing crossing distances and points of conflict; also, prioritize mid-block crossings and intersection improvements.
4. Build the bicycle network.
5. Create a comfortable, safe walk.
