Daily Outtakes: Salzman, McDaniel, Lutimothy shuffle

State Rep. Michelle Salzman has scuttled her bill, HJR 19, to put a constitutional amendment on the 2024 ballot that would set term limits.

From Tallahassee source: “It sounds like she copied the wrong bill and rushed to file it before being told by her senate partner what his plan was. Because cases have stated that counties can limit their own commission terms, there’ll be a question maybe about whether the legislature can set it.”

Quick Draw Drops Out

Stan McDaniels has withdrawn from the District 3 Escambia County Commission race. He pre-filed in late June as a Libertarian Party of Florida candidate.

In 2022, McDaniels ran in the Republican primary against District 4 Commissioner Robert Bender, losing by 58 percentage points.

Warrington Prep Update

Charter Schools USA, who operates Warrington Prep, says the players on Lutimothy May’s basketball team met the age requirement.

The principal and the Athletic Director Shannon Kholer have confirmed the 14 students submitted on the roster matched the birthday list given to Kholer. Inweekly has asked Charter Schools USA to verify they the school has birth certificates for each player.

The school officials report that the team voted to cancel its season. The players believe in the “Together we Rise” mantra and decided that if five of their players (a third of the team) were ineligible because of academics, they would stick by them.

They’ve created an athlete academic program to help these kids with their grades and they are all doing what they need to do.
