Daily Outtakes: Say bye to D.R. Horton, Lutimothy and hello NYC

D.R. Horton has pulled its offer to buy 297 acres of OLF-8 in the Beulah area, according to an email published by NorthEscambia.com.

The home builder first offered $33 million then bumped it up to $42 million for over 500 acres before dropping that offer in July to $24.1 million for 297 acres after Escambia County reserved 241 acres for job creation near Navy Federal Credit Union’s campus off of Interstate 10.

Email

D.R. Horton attorney Chris Gill wrote that his client has too many obstacles to overcome in a limited time frame. He complained that the OLF-8 master plan doesn’t allow for a financially viable development.

“Horton believes that the engineering, due diligence and governmental approvals necessary to make this project feasible cannot be accomplished within the County’s desired timeframe,” Gill wrote.

“From Horton’s perspective, the current Master Plan that exists for the property does not allow for Horton to pursue a financially viable development. The changes to the Master Plan and other associated approvals and entitlements (both at the local and state levels) that would be necessary to convert this project into something that can be developed for commercial and residential purposes and in an economically viable manner pose more risk and uncertainty than Horton is willing to bear at this time.”

Lutimothy May’s Season Canceled – Update

Warrington Prep canceled its first basketball season after its coach fielded a roster with several ineligible players, according to WEAR TV.

The charter school administration canceled the season after the Escambia County School District found Coach Lutimothy May’s team had ineligible players for not meeting the academic requirements.** Parents told WEAR that two kids were over the age limit and five didn’t have the grades to play, but the school has said their records show the 14-man roster met the age requirements. Inweekly has asked if the school has birth certificates on file for each player.

Coach Lutimothy May tried to put a spin on his roster failure:

“The season never ended. We just had to modify, just had to transition. The season never ended. We just have to adjust to play schools in a situation like ours.”

This should create some interesting conversations at the Pensacola Yacht Club.
