Daily Outtakes: Severe Weather Day

Escambia and Santa Rosa counties face an enhanced to moderate risk of severe storms this afternoon and into the evening. In the thunderstorms, wind gusts of up to 80 mph are possible. We are under a flood watch. Escambia County Public Safety Director Eril Gilmore will give us the latest update on WCOA’s “Real News with Rick Outzen” at 7:20 this morning.

All Escambia County public schools and district offices will be closed today, and all extra-curricular activities are canceled, due to the threat of possible severe weather.

Santa Rosa County school will follow an early release schedule on Wednesday. Community Schools Latchkey/After-School Programs and all extracurricular activities, to include practices, games, and events, have been canceled for Wednesday evening. It is anticipated that schools will be in session on Thursday, April 11.

Escambia County Area Transit will suspend all service, including the UWF trolleys, Wednesday, April 10, due to potential severe weather. ECAT administrative offices and customer service will also be closed April 10. Regular service will resume Thursday, April 11.

Escambia County Community Transportation will suspend service on April 10, except for dialysis and life-sustaining services. ECCT will resume service Thursday, April 11.

Escambia County is offering sand for residents living in flood-prone areas, beginning late afternoon Tuesday, April 9. The sand is available on a first come, first served basis. Residents must bring their own sandbags and shovels to one of the following locations (map):

Residents can sign up for Alert Escambia emergency updates through the Emergency Management website.

Citizens can also report storm-related damages. If you receive damage to your home due to the storm, please report it to the Escambia County Citizens Damage Report.
